Quick digitizing operates in 2D mode by default and one can just click with the left button key to digitize. It is however possible to enter 3D mode and perform digitizing in 3D. In that case set

- Click Start digitizing and press Y on your keyboard to digitize on a surface.
- Click Connect to start if you want to close the polygon.
- Click Stop digitizing to save the line/polygon.

Digitize freely

3D digitizing is made easy by using y to attach to a surface and the manipulator to get control elsewhere. A typical case for 3D digitizing is to supply some extra points to grid input around a salt diaphir diapir or specific structure that is not properly covered by the input points.
