Geocap now utilizes a cloud-based licensing system, which requires users to log in to access the application. This documentation provides step-by-step instructions on how to register as a user and license the Geocap application.

Registering a new user
Go through the following steps to get a user.
Send an email to support@geocap.no, providing the following information:
Your full name
Email address
Organization
Upon sending the email, you will receive a confirmation email containing an invitation link.
Click on the "View your invitation" link in the email. This will open a web browser displaying the registration page.
Click on the "Accept" button on the registration page.
Fill out the registration form with the required information and click on the "Sign Up" button. After submitting the form, you will see a confirmation message.
Return to your email inbox, open the validation email, and click on the "Confirm your email" link provided. This step confirms your email address.
Once you have completed the above steps, you have successfully registered and logged in to the Geocap user system.
Starting Geocap
When starting the Geocap application, the following scenarios may occur:
If you are not logged in:
The application will prompt you with a message asking you to log in. Follow the login instructions provided.
If you are already logged in:
The application will open and automatically check out a license, if available.

Once you have logged in for the first time, the application will remember your login details, eliminating the need to log in again for a certain period of time. |
Offline licensing
Starting from Geocap 8.1.5 and above, users can utilize the application offline. To obtain an offline license, the following information is required:
Hardware ID: The unique identifier for the computer intended to use the license.
Duration: The specified duration for which the license will be used offline.

Activating an offline license will remove it from the license pool, rendering it unavailable for others during the offline period. |
Request an offline license
Send the following details to support@geocap.no:
Organization: [Your organization's name]
User Email: [User's email address]
Hardware ID: [Paste the hardware ID from Geocap]
Offline Duration: [Number of days the license will be used offline]
Locating the Hardware ID
My computers has internet access
Start Geocap
Navigate to the toolbar and select: License > License Manager.
Click the copy icon adjacent to the Hardware ID and follow the steps above to request an offline license.

Open a Windows Command Prompt shell on your computer (Search for cmd)
Navigate to the Geocap installation folder by typing in:
(Note that the version number needs to correspond to the version you have installed)Code Block language none cd C:\Program Files\Geocap\Geocap 8.1.7\bin
Then type in:
Code Block language none start geocap.exe --hardwareid
You should then get a pop-up similar to this:
Copy this Hardware-ID and follow the steps above to request an offline license.
Installing an offline license

Start Geocap
Navigate to the toolbar and select: License > License Manager.
Click Browse and find the license file you received (it should be a .jwt file)
Click OK

When Geocap has started navigate to the toolbar and select: License > License Manager.
Click Browse and find the license file again
Click OK
Step 4-6 will ensure that you don`t have to open Geocap through the command interface again.
