Installing on Windows

Introduction

Select the step-by-step installation guide relevant for your licensing method:

Install and start the Geocap software

1. Download the Geocap-X.x.x.msi from www.geocap.no. Go to the Download page and select the correct version. An account for login is required.

2. Double click the Geocap install-shield file Geocap-X.x.x.msi.

3. Click your way through the installation wizard.

4 a. Start Geocap on Windows 7 and older:

• Click: Start > All Programs > Geocap-X.x.x - xx > Geocap-X.x.x - xx. 

4 b. Start Geocap on Windows 8.1:

• Go to the Start screen.

• Near the lower-left corner of the Start screen, click the arrow down and go to the Apps view. 

• In the search field in the upper right corner, enter the text Geocap.

• All the files installed by the installation wizard will be listed. (It is also possible to find the Geocap 7.x.x group without using the search field.)
  

  
  
  

• Click on the Geocap 7.x.x entry to start the program.
  
  

• To easier find the program next time, click the rightmost mouse button and get the menu:

  
  
  

• Click Pin to Start to make a tile on the Start screen, and/or click Pin to taskbar to create the link on the task bar on your Desktop. 

4 c. Start Geocap on Windows 10:

• Click: Start > All apps > Geocap-X.x.x - xx > Geocap-X.x.x - xx . 

5. When Geocap is starting first time, a message about creating a resource directory appears.

6. When not having a valid license, Geocap will report that the license request failed.

Computer locked or demo license

1. Start Geocap as described in Install and start the Geocap software. Geocap will report that the license request failed.

2. Click Computer locked/demo license.

3. Click Request a new license.

4. Copy the information and send it in an email to: support@geocap.no.

5. When you have received the license file from us, save it to disk. The exact location is not important, but you should make a note of it.

6. Start Geocap again and click Computer locked/demo license.

7. Click Install license file

8. Browse in the license file you saved on your disk and click OK.

9 a. On Windows 7:

• Click: Start > All Programs > Geocap-7.x.x - xx > Licensing and right-click Initialize 7.1, then click Run as Administrator. (You only need to do this once for a particular computer.)

9 b. On Windows 8.1:

• Go to the Start screen.

• Near the lower-left corner of the Start screen, click the arrow down and go to the Apps view. 

• In the search field in the upper right corner, enter the text Geocap.

• All the files installed by the installation wizard will be listed. Find the Initialize 7.1 program.

• Right-click Initialize 7.0, then click Run as Administrator. (You only need to do this once for a particular computer.)
  

  
  
  
  

9 c. On Windows 10:

• Click: Start > All apps > Geocap-7.x.x - xx > and right-click Initialize 7.1, then click Run as Administrator. (You only need to do this once for a particular computer.)

10. Start Geocap again.
