How do I install and configure my graphics card?
We recommend getting the latest versions of graphics card drivers directly from the hardware vendors NVIDIA, AMD and Intel.
Computers with two graphics card are becomming increasingly common. For running the advanced visualization techniques in Geocap it is crucial to use the high performance card. Sometimes we must explicitly select which graphics cards should be used by Geocap.
Please note that running Geocap on battery power may force the low performance graphics card to be used by the computer.
Check which graphics card Geocap is using:
- Click Shell and Workspace in the Toolbox.
- Type in: lod glreport in the shell and press enter.
- Go to View > Messages
In the new dialog that pops up you should be able to see which graphics card Geocap is using. i.e
GL Version:4.2.0 GL Vendor:NVIDIA Corporation GL Renderer:Quadro 2000M/PCIe/SSE2
Specify which graphics card Geocap should use:
NVIDIA
- Right Click on the Windows Desktop.
- Select Nvidia Control Panel.
- Select 3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings.
- Select Program Settings.
- Under 1. Select a program to customize select Geocap, Add it if it is not in the list.
- Under 2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program: select High performance NVIDIA processor.
- Select Apply.
AMD
- Right Click on the Windows Desktop.
- Select Configure Switchable Graphics.
- From the Recent Applications list select geocap.exe and switch to High Performance.
- Select Apply.
If Geocap is still not using the best graphics card, try this:
- Right Click on the Windows Desktop.
- Select Graphics Properties.
- Select Power.
- Select Swithcable Graphics Method.
- Select Select Graphics Prosessor Manually.
- Select Apply.
