Background

This application has been built to illustrate the capabilities and functionality of the Subsurface Portal for ArcGIS. All data has been exported from Petrel using the GIS Data Link plugin and then published through ArcGIS Server using the Subsurface Server. The seismic data is streamed directly from ZGY without any duplication of data. The application itself has been built using Web AppBuilder and the Subsurface Viewer Widget.

Navigating in the 3D Window

  1. Zoom out by scrolling downwards on the mouse wheel.

  2. Pan by pressing the right mouse button and moving the mouse in any direction.

  3. Rotate the displayed data by pressing the left mouse button and moving the mouse.

  4. The focal point is the center of the display and the point of rotation. Change the focal point by positioning the mouse cursor on a desired point in the display window and double click the left mouse button.

  1. In the Table of Content (TOC) click on the seismic cube “ST10010ZC11…” and a menu with tree sliders will appear.

  2. Click and drag on one of the sliders and observe that:

    1. the section moves in the 3D window

    2. the blue line corresponding to the seismic section in the map moves

  3. Click one of the arrows on each side of the sliders to step one inline/crossline/timeslice at a time.

Change the appearance of the seismic

  1. In the Table of Content (TOC) click on the three dots “⋮” next to seismic cube “ST10010ZC11…” and select Settings

  2. Click and drag the % Cut slider to increase or decrease the mapping range of the amplitudes evenly

  3. Click and drag the Min or Max to increase or deacrese the mapping rang of the amplitudes individually

  4. Click on the Display section of the settings menu

  5. Click on the grayscale color table to select it

  6. Click OK

View seismic in 2D

  1. On the main menu click 2D to open the 2D window.

  2. In the Table of Content (TOC) click on the three dots “⋮” next to seismic cube “ST10010ZC11…” and select View in 2D. A seismic section will displayed in 2D.

  3. Use the sliders from one of the previous exercises to change which section to show.

  4. Notice that that there is cursor tracking between the seismic section and the map

  5. Notice that the thick red line in the map represents the extent of the seismic section you are looking at. i.e. when zooming in the line gets narrower.

  6. Notice that the intersection with the interpreted surface is display as a line

  7. Click X on the 2D Scene window to close it.
