Licensing

To install a new license file see our FAQ page and the document Installing on Windows. You do not need a new license if you already have a working Geocap 7.0 license installed.

If you are installing a Geocap 7.x series release for the first time you will need to initialize the license as follows:

Windows 7:
Start
> All Programs > Geocap 7.1.x - xx  > Licensing and right-click Initialize 7.1, then click Run as Administrator.

Windows 8.1:
Start screen > Apps view > Search for 'Geocap'. Right-click Initialize 7.1, then click Run as Administrator.

Windows 10:
Start
> All apps > Geocap 7.1.x - xx  > and right-click Initialize 7.1, then click Run as administrator.

Supported operating systems

Geocap 7.1 runs on Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. It has also been test installed and run on Windows 10.

Both 32bit and 64bit versions of Geocap 7.1 are available on our download page. Both versions can be installed at the same time and projects can be used in both versions. In order to use the DataLink for ArcGIS you need to run the 32bit version. Consult this Microsoft support page to figure out which system type your are running on.

 General

Gridding

  • The performance of the Statistical Binning algorithm has been improved. The command does not require that all points are kept in memory during processing. The binning types are now Minimum, Maximum, Mean, Standard Deviation and Number of Points.
  • The Gridding command will now check on maximum allowed grid size, independent of the selected algorithm.

New commands

  • Create and Export Contours. This command is executed from a grid (Structured Points) and will create contours  as specified in the menu. The command can create a dataset in the project and/or export to different format types and to user specified disk locations.
  • Convert to Points: The new command 'Convert To Points" will convert rasters, polydata or multibeam survey points to a point dataset, the output can be either pointcloud or polydata points.

Seismics

  • Import SEG-Y 3D: Handle cubes without navigation.
  • Export SEG-Y: Content of EBCDIC header in exported SEG-Y file can optionally be read from separate text file.
  • Seismic Shift: Shift algorithm improved with use of cubic interpolation; shifted outline is allowed to be extended.
  • Convert to Seismic: It is possible to convert Polydata to Seismic Line. To be suited for conversion the data should be sorted vertically - typically velocities or EM data.

General

  • Geodetic conversion of cubes: It is now possible to perform geodetic conversion of cubes between coordinate systems and datums.
  • PointCloud data in the project can now be exported as a .vtk file.
  • Table view edit of polydata, add column now has an option to set a user defined default value.

 Shelf

  • Generate Midline command has been improved.
  • An updated version of the command "Merge All FOS Points" is now available on a bathymetric profiles folder. The result from this command is put in the same project as the input, in the folder "2. Seabed/ Foot of slope".
  • The command Generate 60 Mile Line is renamed to Generate 60M Line.

 Seafloor

New command

  • Statistical Point Reduction. This command will reduce the amount of points from one or more input data sets. The selection method can for instance be priority of the Minimum or Maximum depth values. The selection area can be by looking at points inside a Rectangle or Circle. The selected points are always with the original position and not snapped into any grid structure.

Multibeam Survey data

  • Support for EM2014 Dual water column data.
  • The command Import Multibeam Sonar Data: Implemented R2Sonic format datagrams in the Eiva *.sbd file import.
  • The command Export Multibeam Data: Possible to also export navigation items from survey lines. The formats are VTK, Esri Shapefile Polyline, ASCII Column, VTK ASCII, Dxf ASCII.
  • The Command Export Multibeam Data now has got two tabs, one for Export Points data and one for Export Navigation lines. The points export can now write TVU and THU columns. The data can be stored in the projection or as Lat/Lon coordinates.

General

  • The command Export Contours: New level definitions for AML contour levels. The contours for typical compilation scales 1:50000 (default), 1:10000, 1:250000 and 1:1000000 are implemented.
  • The command Gridding Chart: Will now prompt the user before start with information about grid sizes and number of points in all the selected charts. Will check on maximum allowed grid size.
  • The seafloor shell command is extended and documented. Possible functions to run are contouring, weighted average gridding, import multibeam data, display points and beams in specific pings, and execute system commands.
  • The commands Export Chart data and Export Chart Contours can now export with Lat/Lon coordinates even if data is stored in a projection.

 DataLink for ArcGIS

The supported ArcGIS Versions are 10.0 to 10.3

It is now easier to copy data from Geocap projects into a file geodatabase. The datalink dialog has been improved.

When copying data from Geocap to a file geodatabase:

  • Improvements to the graphical user interface has been done.
  • Vertical reference datum is now supported. (Vertical Datums require ArcGIS 10.1 or greater.)
  • Feature z value can be added as field in the feature class.
  • Point cloud data can be copied into the FGDB as point features or multipoint features.
  • Multibeam data can be  copied into the FGDB as point features or multipoint features.

Features can now be copied from an Esri file geodatabase to a generic folder. The features will be converted to VTK polydata. The spatial reference is also converted and assigned to dataset properties.

ArcGIS Feature Layer can be copied to a generic folder as VTK data in a project. If a definition query is set on the layer, this is also applied in the copy paste operation. The vtk dataset will be stored in the spatial reference of the layer which may be different than the underlying feature class.

Bugfixes

  • Copy/pasting a feature class from a geodatabase to VTK will take the query filter into account.

  • Recognize datasets not appropriate for contouring when using command CON. An example is dataset with only one point pr cell. In this case CON does nothing.
  • Detect start of data in LAS files that do not have the ~ASCII mnemonic for end of header/start of data.
  • Handle logs where MD values extend maximum MD of well path.
  • Handle deviation logs where MD is not strictly increasing
  • Allow negative values for TWT for well logs above sea level
  • The ASCII column reader will now abort reading all the rest of files when the Cancel button is clicked. In previous version the current file only was aborted.
  • LOD Grid display with Image textures failed on some graphics cards. This has now been fixed.
  • Fix in the shelf command Generate 2500m Isobath command to ensure that also contours outside the graphics window is created.
