6.3 Updated Releases
Common questions about updates
Why should I update to 6.3.x if I am happy with 6.3.0?
Security and improved functionality. (Critical) bugfixes. New or improved functionality.
Do I need a new license file?
No, for these release updates you do not need a new license file.
Do I need to uninstall the previous Geocap version?
No. But if Geocap has corrected a serious bug we strongly advice you to uninstall the version with the bug.
Why so many updates?
After a release we sometimes receive feedback from our users on things that are not working 100% as they ought to. Sometimes we also make minor improvements or add functionality rather than postponing to a new major release.
6.3.6
Release date : Dec. 20th 2012
Release type : Bug fix in Seismic Interpretation
For those users using the Seismic Interpretation in Geocap we highly recommend upgrading to this release. We have resolved some problems that occurred when picking points and deleting segments.
Bug fixes
- Seismic Interpretation: Fixed Invalid Pick error.
- Minor fix in point picking with 'j'.
- Export to SEG-Y 2D now handles local origo.
- Seafloor: Fix in contour area algorithm when using small contour increments (i.e. 0.20 meters or less).
- Seafloor: Gridding Files will now remember search radius settings.
6.3.5
Release date : Dec. 19th 2012
This release was withdrawn because of an error that occurred when converting grids from one projection to another.
6.3.4
Release date : Dec. 12th 2012
Release type : Bug fix & new features
In the Geocap 6.3.x up to this release, orphan vtk-files have been left on disk after being deleted in the project. The Geocap 6.3.4 will remove these orphans, and it is strongly recommended to uninstall previous versions 6.3.x and start using this one.
New Feature
- New keyboard shortcut j will snap to (position cursor at) the nearest point (within 25 pixel distance) in the graphics window. Geocap will search through all points in any polydata displayed from the project, and pick the nearest point (NB: point not line even though lines may be displayed). The dataset name, point index, and point coordinate is reported in the status bar in the lower left corner of the Geocap main window. This functionality is very useful when digitizing or calculating distances as the operations then by a j will snap to existing points.
- New script command project selectbutton provides script interface to a new way of selecting project input to GUI. Instead of regular project browse, it is now possible to select a dataset in the project and let the user click on a button (green arrow) in a dialog, to use this as input. See example in: Help > Examples > QTcl > ProjectSelectDialog
Improvements
Main
- When deleting datasets in the project, it will only be deleted in memory in the index tree. Files on disk are removed only when the project is saved. This ensures that the db files on disk always agrees with the set of physical vtk files on disk. If you delete datasets in the project and then choose "Don't Save" when exiting, the data files are still on disk along with a db file on disk that points to these files.
In previous Geocap versions, deleting a dataset was immediately permanent.
Shelf
- FOS analysis now also extracts the following field data to a FOS point: 1st average steepness, 1st calculation interval, 2nd avg steepness, 2nd calculation interval, 2nd derivative, Lat, Lon and Profile distance
- The default command on an FOS analysis will now open the analysis panel.
Bug fixes
Main
- Shape polygon export will now only create a name field if it does not already exist. The field may exist when using the file append option in export.
Seafloor
- Multibeam Editor: Number count is now correct also after lasso deselect

6.3.1
Release date : Sept. 27th 2012
Release type : Critical bug fix
Due to the below listed critical bug, we strongly recommend that Geocap 6.3.0 is uninstalled an replaced by Geocap 6.3.1
Critical bugfixes
- Connection to Oracle database now fixed. In Geocap 6.3.0 the Oracle data could in worst case be damaged if a read-write connection was opened from a project with the Data Source from the first icon.
Non-critical Bugfixes
- Seafloor: Export of S57 format now OK.
- Seafloor: Command Merge Surfaces now writes correct properties on merged charts.
- Command lod epsilon may now be set without a Geocap window present.
- Seismic: Clear display (red X) does not always remove actor icons on seismic interpretation. Fixed.
- Seismic: LOD Seismic Display will now also work on Seismic internally stored in an older Geocap format.
- Seismic: Assigning navigation when seismic did not contain shot points previously resulted in crash. Now you get an error message.
- Seismic: Seismic interpretation is no longer corrupted by flipping between 2D and 3D mode whilst digitizing.
- Seismic: Internal result format fix for command Seismic Subset to produce vtk Seismic Cubes.
- Color legend script command cco map fixed.
- GIS: Fixed display of ArcSDE Raster.
Improvements
- Shelf: Progress bar for Sediment thickness generation. Previously Geocap appeared "locked".
- Progressbar now always stays on top
- Cross Section Window: Zero centered color table when displaying a seismic line to prevent the line showing in e.g. pink.
- Seismic 3D: Annoying warning for each cube when deleting a Seismic Data folder is now merged into one warning only.
- Seismic: Annoying multiple result confirmation windows when Export SEG-Y from folder is now merged to only one result confirmation.
- Interface change in command Drainage area calculation.
New Functionality
- Command Quickplot PostScript added as a schema command to all grids (Structured Points). Produces a basic PostScript A3 or A4 plot from your grid with minimal efforts. Select any grid in your project and run the Quickplot PostScript command. The functionality is explained by tooltips in the interface. If Ghostscript / Ghosview is installed and entered in the Tools > PostScript Plotting pulldown (File > Info on use of Ghostscript and Ghostview a number of other output formats are then available (jpg, png, gif, pdf etc.).
