Well Tops
Introduction
This documentation describes how to import and work with well tops in Geocap. We want to import well tops and link them to existing wells.
It is assumed that you already have a number of wells in your Geocap 6.5 project.

Importing Well Tops
Start by creating a folder of type Well Tops.
Â
Import your well tops residing in an ASCII column file. If they exist in a spreadsheet, export them to a comma separated values (.csv) file.
Right-click folder Well Tops and select a welltop file. The import dialog may look something like this:
Â
The required columns are:
- Name – name of well top
- Wellname – name of associated well
- MD – Measured Depth of well top Name in well Wellname.
A Welltop Group data set of all the well tops in the well top file is created. Default name is welltopgroup. You can have as many Welltop Groups as you like, but you can only have one Well Tops folder.
Â
Editing Well Tops
Most modifications you would want to do on a welltop group is handled by the Edit Well Tops command accessed by right-click on a welltop group data set.
All well tops have been assigned a colour. Tops with the same name have the same colour. None of the tops have been linked to a well, however.
Linking a well top to a well means that you need to have the well in your Geocap project.
You can manually link a well top to a well, but it is much faster to let the program handle the linking: click the Match well tops to wells button. This requires a match between Wellname in the well top and the actual name of the well in the project. (Rules to allow minor differences between names can be adjusted).Â
The match (and other edits done in the Edit Well Tops dialog) is not performed until Execute has been pushed.
Well Tops children are created for those wells that match well tops. These data sets do not contain any actual data: they just link back to the well tops stored in the well top group.
When displaying Well Tops they receive the colour from the associated colour in the Edit dialog.
